Why BeachSports?

BeachSports is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of South Bay residents to respect, preserve and safely enjoy our local beaches and oceans. Developed by lifeguards and professional educators, our programs provide a fun, safe and inclusive environment for campers to develop lifelong skills, make friends and enjoy their precious summer outdoors!

Safety

Camper safety is our #1 priority and we’ve been fine tuning our protocols for 20+ years. See the steps we take to ensure our campers’ safety.

Q

Camper Safety

How We Prioritize Safety

In an environment as dynamic as the beach and ocean it's important to identify negative or dangerous situations before they occur. In our 25+ years operating youth programs on our local beaches we've had the opportunity to experience these situations and have developed protocols for avoiding and resloving them. Below are just a few ways we act proactively to keep campers safe.

Camper Ratios

We maintain a ratio of at least 1 Coach per every 4 to 6 campers, depending on the camp activity. This ratio does not include our Camp Directors, who oversee all camp activites, or our Coaches-in-Training who provide additional eyes on campers.

Small Camp Sizes

Campers enroll in small groups within each Camp and are assigned a Head Coach and multiple Assistant Coaches for the week. This allows Coaches and Campers to develop a close relationship which ensures focused instruction for each camper and increased safety as coaches are able to easily identify and manage their small group.

Lifeguard Communication

All Beach Camp locations are setup next to staffed lifeguard towers. Our Coaches communicate with Lifeguards at the start of each camp day to address ocean conditions and any safety concerns. Any injury that occurs at camp will be assessed by the Lifeguard on duty.

Camp Rules & Conduct

Emotional safety is equally as important as phsical safety at BeachSports. Bullying and innappropriate language and behavior are not tolerated and will be addressed immediately by our Coaches and Directors, who are professionally trained to handle such situations.

Sun Protection

Multiple suncreen reapplication breaks are scheduled throughout the day and Coaches assist with application when necessary. All campers receive brightly colored SPF 50 lycra swim shirts for additional sun protection and easy camper identification.

Trained & Vetted Staff

Our Coaches are CPR & First-Aid certified, undergo criminal background checks and complete an online training course prior to their first day at camp. Each Camp location has a Director who oversees the program and maintains communication with our Program Director and front office for parent communication.

Leadership

Our team of Coaches, Directors and Customer Service pros work together to ensure a positive experience for campers and their parents.

Q

Leadership

Program Leadership

We strongly believe that the quality of our program is determined by the quality of our team. We focus on finding energetic, responsible and skilled coaches to lead our programs and we support them with a leadership structure that ensures a positive camp experience for our campers, their families and every member of our team.

Head Coaches

Each BeachSports Camp has a Head Coach (ie. Head Coach of Surf Camp / Group A) who is responsible for implementing the program curriculum and ensuring camper safety throughout the week. Head Coaches are skilled in their respective programs and are eager to share their knowlege with their campers.

Location Directors

Each camp location (MB, RB, HB) has a Location Director who oversees all camps at that location. They communicate regularly with the office and relay any relevant camper information to Head Coaches so the Head Coaches can focus on their campers and running a great camp. Parents will have a direct line of communication to the Location Director at their campers location.

Program Director

Our Program Director, Jenn Martin, oversees all camp locations and is always available during camp hours to support Location Directors and Head Coaches and to communicate with parents. Jenn is a former private school teacher and D1 collegiate soccer player and is exceptionally skilled at communicating positively and effectively with our campers. Read Jenn's Bio

Coach:Camper Ratios

We maintain very low coach to camper ratios in all of our programs to ensure a safe and educational program. We've listed the ratios on each Camp page, which range from 1:4 to 1:8 depending on the program. It's important to note that Location Directors and Coaches in Training are not included in those ratios so the actual ratios are even lower!

Communication

As parents ourselves, we appreciate open and proactive communication when it comes to our children, especially in new environments.
