JUNIOR LIFEGUARD CAMP Manhattan Beach
Education in ocean safety and awareness is a necessity for the kids of our beach communities. Starting at Age 8, our Junior Lifeguard Camp is designed to educate and train our participants on the skills necessary to safely and confidently enjoy our oceans. Unlike other Junior Lifeguard programs, our program provides a relaxed and fun environment with incredibly low instructor to participant ratios of 1:6 and a small class size of only 12 campers. Although lifeguard skills are being learned and practiced, we remove the competitive elements and focus on a positive and encouraging experience for all participants.
The week is filled with activities, including morning runs, daily bottom checks, high-stepping exercises, buoy swims, and paddle outs, fostering physical fitness and ocean awareness. The highlight of the program is the exhilarating skills competition and mock taplin at the end of the week. Participants showcase their newfound knowledge, fitness, and swimming abilities in a fun and friendly environment. It’s an exciting way to celebrate their achievements and the camaraderie developed throughout the week.
In addition to Jr. Lifeguard lessons, campers will also engage in beach games, boogie boarding, and body surfing during water sessions, offering a perfect balance of learning, excitement and ocean fun.

Safety
- Coach Ratio: 1:6
- Camp Size: 12 participants
- All Coaches: CPR & First-Aid Certified, Experienced Watermen/Women, Background Checked
- Location: Camp is setup next to a staffed LA County Lifeguard station. Coaches and Lifeguards communicate daily about ocean conditions and coaches always defer to lifeguards on safety matters.
- Rashguards: All campers receive brightly colored SPF rashguards so they are easily identified by coaches and lifeguards.
- Sunscreen: Sunscreen reapplication breaks are scheduled multiple times throughout the day. Shade tents are provided on the beach for all day campers to escape sun exposure.

Swim Requirement
We do not require a swim test for our program. As a general rule, participants should be able to swim 100 yards in the pool in under 2:30 and tread water for 5 minutes or be able to confidently swim past the breaking waves and return to shore. Should our coach determine after the first day that your camper is not ready for the program, you will be able to transfer to one of our other BeachSports programs or receive a prorated refund of your camp fees. FAQ: Online Registration
Groups: What are Groups?
During registration you will be asked to choose a Group. We break our camps into groups (ex. A, B, C, D) with a limited number of spots available in each group. These small groups ensure an ultra safe and personalized learning environment with very low instructor to participant ratios. If you are enrolling with friends or family and want to participate in activities together, make sure to sign up for the same Group during registration.
Session Options: Extended Day & Early Drop-Off
Session Options / Extended Day + Early Drop-Off
Extended Day (9AM-4PM) and Early Drop-Off (8:15AM) can be added to your registration during checkout. Please keep in mind Extended Day, open to ages 7+, is a long day at the beach and may be too much for some campers. Extended Day programming will consist of a variety of age appropriate beach games and water activities with opportunities for kids to relax in the shade at their discretion.
Waitlists
If the program you're enrolling in is sold out, you will see the option to join the waitlist. There is no charge to join the waitlist so we encourage you to join even if you've found an alternative program for that week. Our waitlist is automated so as soon as a cancellation is processed you will receive an email asking if you'd like to join. If you'd like to join, you simply click "yes" and follow the steps for registration. Click "no" and the next person on the waitlist will be notified of the opening. Feel free to Contact Us anytime to check your place on the waitlist or see if there is space in another Group or program.
Rashguard / Sunshirts
BeachSports provides one rashguard/sunshirt per summer which will be provided on your first day and is to be worn to camp daily. Additional rashguards are available for purchase during registration or at our Online Store.
Discounts
We currently offer discounts to families registering siblings and for campers attending multiple weeks of camps. Discounts are applied automatically at checkout and are calculated as follows:
- Multi-Week Discount: When a camper enrolls in 2 or more weeks of camp, a 7% discount will be applied to the second and subsequent weeks of camp.
- Sibling Discount: When siblings enroll in the same or different camps, a 10% discount will be applied to the second and subsequent siblings total.
A few notes about discounts:
- Discounts only apply for registrations that are purchased in the same order (i.e. as part of the same cart). For example, if you complete the purchase of one week of camp then return at a later date and purchase another week, whether for the same camper or a sibling, the automated multi-week or sibling discount will not be applied. Please email us (team@beachsports.com) and we will complete your registration on our end.
- Discounts do not apply to Session Options or Merchandise purchases.

IMPORTANT NOTE: No discounts are available for our Hermosa Beach programs. The City of Hermosa Beach manages registration and payments for our Hermosa programs and, unfortunately, prohibits us from offering discounts for siblings or multi-week registrations.

Confirmation Emails
Upon completion of your online registration you will receive an email with information specific to your program as well as a purchase receipt for your records. Merchandise Purchases
During registration you will have the option to purchase various products. Depending on the product, it may be shipped to your home or delivered to you on the first day of camp. Delivery options will be specified in the product description.
